All aboard as Hamsterley Hoppings is back

SCORES of people turned out to enjoy fun and games as Hamsterley Hoppings made its return to the annual calendar after missing a year because of Covid-19.
The event was slightly different this year but still included the popular classic car show and traditional games such as the coconut shy, as well as a host of funfair attractions.
Organiser Claire Hunter said: “It is slightly different as we have done things on a smaller scale – so it’s more stalls rather than activities.”
One of the main attractions at the car show was a 1922 Sunbean exhibited by Robin Wills of Brancepeth. Only about 2,000 of the vehicles were built in Wolverhampton
Mr Wills said: “I bought it in 2015 as a wreck. The full rebuild took about 18 months.”
George Stephenson, from West Auckland, took along his 1962 Morris Minor which he bought as a wreck in 2005 and rebuilt. He said: “It is an ongoing thing because you never really finish, but we got it up and running in about three months. We totally modified it from front to back.”
